Pirouettes, Blackout Duettes, Woven Woods, & Energy Efficient Roller Shades
September 2025 Featured Project
Step into this beautifully updated Broomfield, Colorado home, where our designer Carly collaborated with Carolyne Evans Interior Design and the homeowner to create a warm, inviting atmosphere—without compromising energy efficiency. From cozy nooks to expansive views, each space was thoughtfully designed to balance style, comfort, and performance.
Kitchen Breakfast Nook
To transform the kitchen’s breakfast nook into a cozy retreat with soft lighting and timeless charm, Carly and Carolyne determined that Hunter Douglas Pirouette® Shades would be the best solution. These shades feature soft, contoured fabric vanes that combine elegance with functionality, allowing for versatile light and privacy control and a refined aesthetic.
Why Carly Recommended Pirouette® Shades:
- Soft yet structured design complements traditional and modern styles
- Adjustable vanes offer flexible light and privacy control
- Enhances the cozy ambiance of the breakfast nook

Living Area
This space presented a unique challenge: preserving stunning mountain views while reducing heat from west-facing windows and maintaining a cohesive look throughout the open-concept layout. Carly’s solution was a layered approach using Insolroll® Roller Shades with SilverScreen® Solar Fabric, paired with Hunter Douglas Pirouette® Shades. The SilverScreen® fabric allows visibility even when the shades are down, while its silver backing reflects UV rays for superior heat control. To maintain visual consistency and add texture, Carly layered the same Hunter Douglas Pirouette® Shades used in the kitchen over the roller shades.
Why Carly Recommended This Combination:
- Maintains mountain views while reducing solar heat gain
- SilverScreen® fabric enhances energy efficiency
- Layered design provides additional heat control and visual continuity through kitchen and great room without taking away from the elevated design aesthetic.
Primary Bedroom
In the master bedroom, the homeowner prioritized privacy, room darkening, and energy efficiency—without sacrificing the elegance of their bay windows. Carly selected Hunter Douglas Duette® Honeycomb Shades, known for their advanced insulating properties, excellent room darkening, and Top-Down/Bottom-Up functionality.
This feature allows the shades to be lowered from the top, preserving mountain views while keeping the room private and comfortable.
Why Carly Recommended Duette® Honeycomb Shades:
- Exceptional thermal insulation for year-round comfort
- Top-Down/Bottom-Up feature offers flexible privacy and light control
- Compliments the architectural beauty of bay windows
Basement
Carly and Carolyne wanted to create a warm and welcoming environment in the basement, which can be tricky, especially with window wells. Carly chose Hunter Douglas Provenance® Woven Woods to soften the space and bring in natural light. The woven texture adds visual interest and ties together the homeowner’s traditional furnishings in the media area.
Why Carly Recommended Provenance® Woven Woods:
- Disguises window wells while allowing natural light
- Adds warmth and texture to the basement
- Enhances the overall design with organic materials
